Do I own the site and the domain?
Always. The domain, hosting and any accounts are registered in your name with you as the billing contact. I have seen too many businesses held hostage by a developer who registered everything under their own details.
Can you help my site rank better?
Yes — proper page structure, fast loading, structured data, meaningful titles and content written around what people actually search for. What I will not do is promise a position on Google, because nobody can honestly promise that.
Can I update it myself afterwards?
That depends on what suits you, and it is worth deciding before the build rather than after. Some clients want a content editor they can log into; others would rather send me the changes. Both are fine, they just lead to different builds.
