Laptop and computer repair in Adelaide

Most laptops that come to me are not dead. They have one failed part, one corrupted driver, or five years of dust packed into a heatsink. The difference between a machine worth repairing and one worth replacing is usually a twenty-minute diagnosis, not a guess over the phone.

So that is where I start. I find out what is actually wrong, tell you what it costs to fix and what it costs to replace, and let you decide. If the honest answer is that the machine is not worth the money, you will hear that from me before you have spent anything on it.

What this covers

  • Cracked and failing laptop screens replaced
  • Batteries, keyboards and trackpads that have stopped behaving
  • Blue screens, boot failures and random shutdowns diagnosed properly
  • Cleaning, fans and thermal paste for machines running hot and loud

Sound familiar?

These are the ones I get called about most. If yours is not listed, it is still worth asking.

  • It will not turn on at all, or powers up to a black screen
  • The screen is cracked, flickering, or showing lines and blotches
  • The battery lasts an hour, or the laptop only runs while plugged in
  • Blue screens, freezes or restarts that happen at random
  • Keys have stopped responding, or the trackpad clicks but does nothing
  • The fan is constantly loud and the machine is hot and slow
  • Something was spilled on it and it has not been right since
  • It hangs on the manufacturer logo and never reaches the desktop

Computer & Laptop Repair — common questions

How long does a laptop repair take?

Most common repairs — a screen, a battery, a keyboard, a clean-out — are done within a day or two once the part is on hand. Diagnosis itself is usually same-day. If a part has to be ordered in, I will tell you the wait before you commit to the repair.

Which brands do you work on?

Most major laptop and desktop brands, including HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, MSI and custom-built desktops, plus Apple. I am an independent technician rather than a brand-authorised service centre, so if your machine is still under manufacturer warranty I will tell you to use that first.

Is it worth repairing or should I just replace it?

That depends on the fault and the machine, and it is genuinely case by case. Once I have diagnosed it you will get both numbers — the repair cost and what a sensible replacement would cost — and an honest opinion about which one I would choose. I would rather tell you to buy a new machine than take your money for a repair that will not last.
